Summary Of "My Favorite Teacher"




In the essay "My Favorite Teacher", Thomas L. Friedman wrote his journalism teacher who had the greatest influence on his life. Her name is Hattie. Thomas was taught by her when he was a high school student in 10th grade. She harbored the view that getting the fundamentals right was the key of success. Precisely, she wanted her students to do things more professional and efficient. In addition to this, Hattie was so strict with her students. Thomas couldn’t fulfill the requirements of writing so she just let him to be a business manage and finished one story in his 11th grade. She was also strict in supervising the yearbook. Although she wasn’t cool at all, her students still liked her very much. She treated her students very well. Meantime, she was not only a teacher but a good friend of her students. Besides, Hattie thought reading the New York Time was the fundamentals of being a real journalist. Her lessons still play an important role in current society. History proves that no matter a single individual or a country all need the fundamentals including reading, writing, arithmetic, church, synagogue and mosque, the rule of law and good governance. And  we need learn these fundamentals through the traditional way instead of just using the Internet.
